| "robot nightclub" |
this 4 ft. by 4 ft. painting was commissioned by the lovely dj shakey otherwise known as julie covello.
it is a multimedia piece, using markers, pencils, tempera, acrylic, collage and ballpoint, and incorporates an advent calendar style hidden surprise-a piece of prose, a treatise on love, found in julie's basement eleven years ago, in 1997. the task was to paint her something to look up at while she created music or practiced spinning records in her home studio. i decided to paint her a dancing raucous audience, enjoying her music, in a cavernous smoky nightclub. all the usual suspects are included. the project took three weeks of steady painting and is covered in several layers of clear acrylic spray to protect and bind the elements together, on a 1/4 inch plywood board. |
